 Viktor Koziuk.  Full Member of National Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor, holds the position of Head of Department since July 22, 2008. In 1998 V. Koziuk graduated from the Ternopil Academy of National Economy (now TNEU) in "Finance and Credit" and entered the graduate school of Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University.
 In 2000 he successfully defended his thesis "Public debt in the transitional economy of Ukraine", specialty 08.01.01 - "Economics" at Specialized Academic Council of Lviv National Ivan Franko University.
 In 2006 he defended his doctoral thesis "The central banks in the conditions of globalization: the main directions of monetary policy transformation of national and international level", specialty 08.00.02 - "World Economy and International Economic Relations" at Specialized Academic Council at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv). In 2007 V. Koziuk was awarded the academic title of professor.
 Head of Department, Professor V. Koziuk is known in Ukraine as ф scientist, member of the editorial board of scientific journals, "Journal of the European economy", "Bulletin TNEU", "World Finance", "Galician Economic Journal", "Journal of the National Bank." In 2003 during a meeting of the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine he took part in the discussion of the draft law "On State Duty". He has proven himself as one of the leading experts on globalization and transformation in global macroeconomic conditions, functioning currency union and reserve currency. In studies of Professor V. Koziuk there is much emphasis on theoretical questions of macroeconomic and institutional dimension of European integration, monetary policy, national and international levels.
  In 2016 V. Koziuk was elected as a member of the National Bank of Ukraine.
  Total number of scientific and educational publications of V. Koziuk exceeds 250.         

About the Department

 Our goal
 The strategic goal of the department is providing classical university education for Bachelors and Masters of analytical economics for work in peer activities and analytical support, management decisions, including the analysis of markets and economic behavior, economic policy and the quality of regulation, forecasting and consulting, study of business models and study of global processes. Within the Department staff of basic courses ("Economics", "Microeconomics", "Macroeconomics", "History of Economics and Economic Thought") other economic specialties for the students, our goal is to develop categorical apparatus and proper theoretical level for acquiring professional competences.
 
Our Mission
Our goal is to develop competencies on:
- examination of economic systems and identification of the optimal model behavior of economic agents;
- analysis of market structures and development of recommendations for an effective model of markets state regulation and the behavior of businesses;
- economic forecasting, macro-analysis and evaluation of social processes;
- formulation and conduct of economic experiments;
- carrying out analytical work in the field of macro- and microeconomics;
- analytical support of theoretically grounded programs, development of economic policy;
- study the optimal model of economic agents’ behavior, including governments, among institutional constraints and global challenges;
- business development strategy;
- the ability to conduct research in the field of economy.
Our programmes
The Bachelor programme of economic analysis focused on the formation of future specialists in scientific analysis and application consulting skills. Their expertise is ensured through the mastery of "Global macro- and microeconomics", "Macroeconomic analysis", "Microeconomic Analysis" "Institutional Economics", "Financial Economics", "Behavioral and Experimental Economics", "Economic Development", "Network economy", "Forecasting and market analysis", "Society Economics", "Empirical research methods", "Comparative Economics (comparative economic development)" and other subjects.
Professional duties may be carried out by graduates in the following positions:
- Economist Intelligence Research micro- and macroeconomic environment;
- Consultant on effective organization of business and market analysis;
- Specialist in political, economic consulting and design of institutional change;
- Professional management of business processes and implementation of economic policy. 
The Master programme "Analytical Economics" combines macro, micro, institutional and behavioral approaches designed to generate analytical competence of top-level fundamental knowledge of economic analysis and economic policy development, sectoral regulation and business strategies. The programme is aimed at training professionals in the field of strategic analysis, forecasting and institutional design, analytical support management activities in the field of economic policy and government regulation, programming implementation of business strategies and their analytical support, management of information analysis and monitoring of risks and threats, organizational research to identify perspective areas of macro and microstructures, monitoring of global processes and structural changes in the policy of European integration, professional management of business processes and implementation of economic policy.
Graduates of the Master's programme can work as:
- managers and specialists of economic departments and financial analysis, monitoring and forecasting;
- experts in analytical work, government, financial and banking institutions, corporations;
- experts of political parties and public organizations;
- top-level economic advisers;
- researchers.
Our structure and experience
In the department there are 16 people on staff: 3 - Doctors; 13 Candidates of Sciences of which 9 are Associate Professors, 4 - lecturers; 1 – laboratory assistant.
Department staff has a high level of training. Repeated faculty internships abroad in Greece (Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia, Kozani), Germany (Dresden University of Technology, Dresden; GESIS, Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Cologne), Great Britain (Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds), Italy (La Sapienza University, Rome; Summer School «Macroeconomic Coordination and Externalities», Tretno), Spain (CEMFI - Center for monetary and financial studies, Madrid; Universidad de Huelva, Huelva), Poland (University of Warsaw, Warsaw) provide the ability to effectively implement innovative educational technologies in the educational process. 
  
Our research work
The Department annually organized and conducted roundtables on current economic topics:
"The problems of economic growth amid the global financial crisis" (2009);
"Macroeconomic developments in the economic growth in the post-crisis period" (2010);
"Problems of modern macroeconomic theory and economic growth policy in light of global financial instability" (2011);
"The effectiveness of markets: macro, micro and institutional dimensions" (2012);
"The Political Economy of oligarchic economy" (2013);
"Economic theory values and institutional fragmentation of the global economy" (2014);
"The global economy in a downtrend of commodity prices: challenges and opportunities for Ukraine" (jointly with the Department of International Management and Marketing) (2015).
 
The department conducted research on the topic "Fundamental principles of implementing a modern model of economic policy", which aims to:
 - formulate conceptual guidelines of implementing economic policy in a global transformations environment;
 - study the evolution of theoretical and methodological foundations of state interference and building models of economic policy;
 - research policy imperatives of modern economic development, economic growth and macro-financial stability;
 - identify features of economic development of the national economy model.
The Department organizes and conducts behavioral experiments, particularly during November and December 2015 we conducted a laboratory experiment involving foreign students of Ternopil National Economic University to determine the extent of susceptibility to corruption strategies of immigrants from countries with high levels of corruption in the conditions of a personalized and non-personal nature of the transactions. In 2016 at the Ternopil National Economic University and Ternopil I. Gorbachevskyy State Medical University the second experiment was conducted in the form of one period game to confirm the existence of emergent institutional order in the laboratory conditions.
In 2016, the Department of Economic Theory launched the annual general university intellectual tournament "School of young experts," the first of which was held on the topic: "The fall in world oil prices and the paradox of gasoline prices stability in Ukraine." Subject of the Tournament in 2017 - "The paradox of income and the expansion of construction in Western Ukraine".
Department of Economic Theory in cooperation with the Central European University (Budapest) conducts online courses «Political Economy of Development», «Korea in International Relations» and «Identity Politics in the post-Soviet space» for students of all specialties. Upon project completion, students will receive certificates of international standard.

Improving the quality of the educational process sees the search for new forms and methods of educational, methodical and educational work with students in continuous improvement. Training courses and programs, implementing best practices of training and education of students, learning process optimization, providing students with modern educational and methodical literature, computerization of educational process, strengthening requirements for student research and creative approach to educational process are all among our methods.
