About the Department
The Department carries out preparation of Bachelors, Specialists and Masters in speciality "Finance, banking and insurance". Preparation of master's students is conducted based on the Master's degree programme"Finance".Students may obtain the degree of a Master of Public Service in speciality "Public management and administration" by entering the educational programme "Public financial Management".
History of the department
The Department of Finance was founded in September 1969 for the purpose of teaching and methodological provision of training economists in the specialty "Finance and Credit" and carrying out research work. In 1969-1973, the teaching staff of the Department of Finance consisted of young Candidates of Economic Sciences, invited from higher educational institutions of Moscow, Kyiv, Odessa, Rostov-na-Donu and practitioners-financiers.
In its history, the Department of Finance underwent several divisions, as a result of which other departments were formed. The first of them took place in 1973 with the formation of the Department of Money Circulation and Credit, and the last two - in 2001 with the separation of the Department of Taxes and Fiscal Policy and in 2002 with the formation of the Department of Finance of Business Entities. In 2015, the department was renamed in honor of the outstanding Ukrainian scholar - Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor, Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine S. I. Yurii, who was the Head of the Department of Finance, Dean of the Faculty of Finance, and Rector of TNEU.
The Heads of the Department
Over the history of the department, it was headed by 6 managers. In particular, people who held in this position were: during 1969-1975 - Ph.D., Associate Professor O. Pekun; 1975-1984 - Ph.D., Associate Professor V. Andrushchenko; 1984-1989 - Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor M. Oleksiyenko; 1989-1994 - Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor A. Flissak; 1994-2007 - Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor S. Yurii.
Since 2007, the department has been headed by Professor O. Kyrylenko, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, the author and co-author of more than 250 scientific and methodological works, including 20 monographs, 3 dictionaries, textbooks. Among them are: "Local Finance" (2006), "Finance" (2008, 2012), "Budget system" (2013); "Financial economic literacy” (2017), "The Budget System of Ukraine" (2000), "Finance (Theory and Practice of the Nation)" (2002), "Local Finance" (2004), "The budget system. Vyskil studio "(2010)," The Tax System of Ukraine "(2011)," Foreign Finances "(2013) and 25 methodological developments.
The teaching staff of the Department consists of 30 people, including 4 Doctors and 27Candidates of Economic Sciences (PhD holders).

Scientific research work
Lecturers and post-graduate students of the Department actively engage in research work, conducting comprehensive research on the topic "Creating the financial mechanism for sustainable development of Ukraine" (state registration number 0110U008613), scientific advisor Doctor of Economic Sciences, Prof. O. Kyrylenko. In the time of the Department’s existence more than 50 textbooks and manuals, 300 methodological workings, and more than 100 monographs have been published.
