 Course description
 
The primary objective of this course is to provide an overview of social norms, social processes, mechanisms and patterns of improvement. The course "Sociology" allows students to get acquainted with the public education system, to understand the essence of its structural elements, and trace the relationship between them. Much attention is paid to the role of human potential in the society, the relationship of people and society, and the harmonization process.
The program is designed to study the subject in one semester. We will have a look at general examples and frameworks of social activities through the text, lecture, and discussion. This course should:
- reveal the specifics of sociology as a science of society, its differences from other sciences; prove the importance of existing theoretical concepts of classical and modern periods of social knowledge, show their features and connectivity;
- show and explain the features of the various social institutions, the importance of their knowledge;
- explain the meaning of various special sociological theories to achieve high professional qualifications, show empirical values and the methods of social research for different sectors of society; develop students` abilities to gather information, draw conclusions and present the material.

 Learning outcomes   At the end of the course, students are expected to:
- Master basic methodological issues in sociology, international experience and the current state of the industry in Ukraine; learn the basic methods of data collection, processing, and analysis of survey;
- Form a complete system of theoretical knowledge of sociology;
- Learn the basic principles of organizing and conducting opinion polls;
- Learn to explain, evaluate, synthesize the knowledge of society in the context of a systematic approach with elements of structural and functional analysis;
- Grasp and consolidate the theoretical knowledge obtained during lectures;
Acquire skills of practical use of theoretical knowledge in practice.
