Course description | The main goal of the course «The History of Ukraine and Ukrainian
culture» is the formation of system of knowledge about Ukrainian history and
culture. The academic discipline devotes the main attention to the building of
the Ukrainian nation and its state formation and concentrates on bringing up
professional competences of students. The syllabus of the academic discipline
has been worked out for teaching students how to think critically, work with
scientific literature, analyze and compare different historical facts,
represent points of view, share opinions with others. Study of Ukrainian
history and culture is of great importance for giving priority to the problems
of correlation of national and international notions, genesis of cultural
phenomena, interactive processes of Ukrainian and world culture. |

Learning outcomes | The names and the description of competencies, the formation of which
the discipline "The History of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture” provides: - knowledge of Ukrainian history and current events; - knowledge of geo-political issues, changes, and decision making; - knowledge about the culture of a learned country representing "panoramic”, outward perspective; - the ability to analyze social, political, economic processes, events, phenomena of the past and present Ukraine; - the ability to present and argue the information on history of Ukraine and it culture; - the ability to define and characterize peculiarities of political and socioeconomic order of the state, its foreign and domestic policy; - determination of the basic forms and trends in culture of Ukraine; kinds, styles and genres of fine arts. - ability to function as a member of another culture; - effective intercultural communication skills including language skills; - appreciation of own and others’ personal and cultural norms; - the ability to prove independently standpoints and take responsibility for the correctness of argumentation; - the ability to take part in intercultural interaction, where a person, as a social agent possesses an experience of several cultures; - the ability to take part in intercultural interaction; - knowledge and understanding the similarities and differences between the native culture and the culture of the target country. |
