 Course description  Curriculum and thematic plan of the course is focused on the acquisition of practical skills, knowledge of a foreign language in various kinds of speech activity. Discipline "Business English" is directed at obtaining the latest professional information through foreign sources, the use of oral monologue and dialogue speech within the socio-political, general economic and professional topics; translation from a foreign language into your own texts of general economic character; annotation of socio-political and general literature in English.
The main objective of the course "Business English" is the formation of students' professional and communicative competence. Students must master the speech on the level of course requirements, and be able and willing to implement the training received in their future practice.
Studying of the discipline  "Business English" implies systematic and thorough knowledge of related courses,  studying of special   literature, active work during seminars,  fulfillment of self-instructed work  and individual tasks.

3-rd semester
Module 1.
Topic 1. Outsourcing
Transferring  of production to regions with lower labor costs. Globalization of business. Big labor migration: advantages and disadvantages.  The beginning of new global change. Who benefits from it? Signing contracts - one way to save money. Offshore companies and their activities. Labor migration to developed countries as a result of globalization.
Grammar: Rules of English spelling. Punctuation. Open and closed punctuation. Use points. Coma. Semicolon.
Module 2.
Topic 2. Finance
Bottom line. Balance sheet. Profit and loss account. "Creativity" in accounting. Financial scandals. The reform of accounting and corporate governance. Independent audit and verification of balance sheets. Responsibility for loss of funds due to a failed administration. How to save the company's budget.

The industries that experience the largest losses from goods imitation.

Module 2.
Topic 5. Markets
Types of markets. Negotiations and price setting.   Delivery of goods. Electronic markets. The online commerce. The potential threat to e-commerce. How to start your own online business. Internet auctions. The process of marketing.
Grammar: Past and current habits. Common stylistic errors in the formulation of questions, matching times, use of verbs say - tell. Stylistic problems: nouns that precede pronouns one and you. Transformation of direct and indirect objects. Use the article with abstract nouns and names of substances (revision). Use the article with proper names (revision).
Module 3.
Topic 6. Lobbies
Charity organizations, pressure groups, industry groups and their influence on decision making. Means of influence demonstrations, petitions, boycotts, etc. Acts of protest. Successful campaign of protest. Fair trade. Should celebrities interfere in international politics and economics? Involvement of celebrities into influence of public opinion. Petitions on the Internet. Preparing and conducting demonstrations, boycotts and strikes. Manipulation of the crowds. Grammar: Inversion. Conditional mood (revision).
 Learning outcomes  As a result of studying of the course   "Business English" students must: achieve free and confident  usage of  the language of business (independent user level (advanced) - B2 Vantage);  understand speech of academic and professional nature of the standard  language in  normal pace; own the skills of  oral monologue and dialogue speech within the socio-political, professional and special  categories: actively participate in detailed discussions and debates, presenting and justifying their views; provide  clear, detailed descriptions and presentations, supporting the ideas using relevant examples and appropriate terminology;  to read and understand complex texts of academic and professional nature , be able to work with the original literature on the profile of the university: the choice of information, analysis, evaluation, discussion and conclusions;  expand glossary of terms, to recognize a wide range of terminology and abbreviations of academic and professional fields, using selective reference resources; acquire skills in professional communication and business contacts; translate from the  foreign languages into your own texts of general economic character; own the skills of  official-business style of speech;  adequately choose the style of presentation of thoughts in spoken and written forms of professional communication; write clear, detailed texts on topics related to academic and professional fields, summarizing information from various sources and assessing them; be prepared for TOEFL exam.
