About the Department
The Department of Information Computing Systems and Management (ICSM) was founded on June 29, 1989 at Economic and Social Planning Faculty based on an industrial research laboratory Automated Systems and Networks. In June 1994 on the basis of the Department, Faculty of Informational Technologies was founded.
The department is graduating for specialties 6.050101«Computer Science» (Bachelor), 8.05010101 «Information Control Systems and Technologies» and 8.18010013 «Project Management» (Master), and a new licensed specialty 8.05010104 «Artificial Intelligence Systems» (Master).
Scientific and Research Activity
The main research areas of ICSM: diagnostics and testing of computer systems and networks, distributive intelligent sensors networks, parallel and distributed systems and networks, measurement and robotics, sensor data fusion, recognition and generate complex images, mobile robots, industrial vision application artificial neural networks, parallel programming on high performance computers, intelligent network controllers and sensors.
− Improvement of the functional and organizational department structure, application of modern education forms and methods, taking into account international experience;
− Establishment of joint studying laboratories in cooperation with leading foreign and national IT firms and corporations;
− Educational books publishing in English and Ukrainian languages;
− Development and support of Department’s Electronic Library;
− Development of the American-Ukrainian program;
− Active ICSM staff training through doctorate and international PhD and Postdoc grants;
− Staff the Department with at least 75% of lecturers with scientific degrees.
Main goal of ICSM – integration to European and international educational and scientific systems and training of high-qualified specialists in accordance with international standards.

Specialty 6.050101«Computer Science» (Bachelor’s Degree)
Computer science is the most popular direction of informatics in foreign universities, core of knowledge, which is used by specialists in computer and program engineering, information systems and technologies in the working process.
Purpose and conceptual base of the specialty development include:
− usage of modern technologies and advanced educational services;
− improvement of the educational process and methodological support;
− introduction of interactive learning technologies to create optimal conditions for the development of creative abilities of future professionals, based on their independent work, active forms and methods of teaching, discussion, design and production of practical situations;
− creation of internship bases (in cooperation with employers) to accelerate adaptation of students to a particular job.
Obtaining fundamental and engineer knowledge in the following disciplines: algorithmic and programming technology of software distributed and parallel computing, WEB-technologies and WEB-design, organization of data and knowledge bases, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, simulation systems, computer networks, computer architecture and computer circuitry.
Future professions: Programmer, IT project manager, administrator of computer networks, WEB-designer, database administrator and others.
Future employment places: IT companies, small and medium sized businesses, banks, industrial associations, universities, research institutions, information and computer centers.
Specialty 8.05010101 «Information Control Systems and Technologies» (Master’s Degree)
Master training in specialty «Information Control Systems and Technologies» caused by the development of innovative computing and information technologies, increasing difficulty of control objects, complex research to develop new theoretical approaches to the organization of local and global computer networks, semantic analysis and modeling and intelligent information systems.
The peculiarity of the Master's program is the studying of information control systems and technology in the context of their application for control of industrial and socio-economic objects and processes in the study disciplines: analysis and reengineering business processes in information systems, information management and marketing, development of information, development management of technology-based business enterprise architecture. Studying of innovative information systems and technologies confirmed the introduction of curriculum subjects such as grid systems and cloud computing technologies, multiservice technologies in computer networks and mobile operating systems. This master's program differs in that education carried out according to integrated curricula universities in the US and Europe. Graduates of this specialty can work as database administrators, system administrators, analysts of computer communications, computer systems analysts, computer data bank analysts, analytics and operational software application engineers, computer software engineers and researchers of computerized systems and automation, software engineers, programmers and researchers (programming).
Specialty 8.18010013 «Project Management» (Degree «Master»)
Project Management - an area of expertise for planning, organizing and managing resources for the successful implementation of the project.
The purpose of the master's program: to provide quality training for professionals and managers in project management based on state educational standards and international professional standards. Main courses: human resources projects, planning and organization of projects, monitoring of projects, project portfolio management, information management and knowledge management policies in making design decisions.
Graduates of the program receive a Master's degree with the qualification "Master of Project Management."
The best students of the program have the opportunity to continue their education fully (or partially) at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund (Germany) and other university consortium program EuroMPM (www.eurompm.net) and additionally receive a European certificate.
In parallel, instruction is provided in English under the Ukrainian-American program in computer science on an integrated curriculum with broad involvement of lecturers from foreign universities - members of the consortium EuroMPM and regular student exchange. Practice dual leadership UAP- EuroMPM master's work. Future profession: Project Manager in firms, senior project developer, head of IT services to enterprises, the IT department chief administrator of IT assets of the company, consultant director of IT, project analyst and others.
The students may continue their studies in graduate school and receive academic degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in specialty 05.13.05 - "Computer systems and components" and 05.13.06 - "Information Technology". Recently opened postgraduate specialty 05.13.22 - "Program and Project Management." Over the past four years the lecturer reserved 9 PhD theses in the field of intelligent robotics systems, computer components and information technology, measuring systems.
AMERICAN-UKRAINIAN SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGIES
Idea of establishing American-Ukrainian School of Computer Sciences and Technologies (AUS) was proposed by Prof. Anatoly Sachenko after his internship as Fullbright Professor in University of Maine (UMaine) and Bowdoin College in 2002-2003 academic year. This idea was extended due to his outstanding collaboration with Prof. George Markowsky, UMaine and Prof. Allen Tucker, Bowdoin College. The result of this collaboration became a signed agreement about collaboration between Ternopil National Economic University (TNEU) and UMaine in 2004. Then admission campaign for accepting of the AUS 1st year students started and Prof. George Markowsky was appointed as the first Dean of AUS. Prof. Anatoly Sachenko headed School in September 2005. Main principles of teaching technique at AUS are the combination of achievements of Ukrainian fundamental science and American pragmatism to implement the gained knowledge.

American-Ukrainian School of Computer Sciences and Technologies is working according to the US standards, developed for IT by worldwide societies IEEE and ACM. It is well-known that US is one of the biggest IT-markets and IT-manufacturers. To meet those high requirements the best AUS students get an opportunity to continue their study in the US Universities and finally obtain the Bachelor’s Degree there, or even Master’s or PhD Degree. For such reason AUS TNEU has signed the collaboration agreements with the followed universities:

The AUS students are studying according to the two education standards -American and Ukrainian. After successful three-year long study in Ternopil some of the students have an opportunity to complete their education in one of the three partner-universities above and gain Bachelor diploma as either Bachelor of Sciences (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). After graduating, students may continue their education in TNEU's master department or in foreign universities.
